Idioms and Phrases With Meanings
In a Good or Better Light
Sometimes, I helped her find a better story that put her in a better light or tell a story differently to show that she had acted decisively and learned from the experience.
This phrase means a way of presenting something so that it appears more favorably.
Rapid-Fire
So, here are some rapid-fire tips to feel and project confidence.
Rapid-fire is an adjective used here to describe something said in a dialogue sequence unhesitating and rapid.
Tip of the Iceberg
But keep in mind these tips are just the tip of the iceberg.
This idiom means a small part of something seen or known about when there is a much larger part that is not seen or known about.
For a longer explanation of the idiom “Tip of the Iceberg,” I highly recommend the one-minute Voice of America video, English in a Minute: Tip of the Iceberg, which is available on the VOA Learning English YouTube Channel. In addition, I strongly recommend Voice of America’s Learning English website and YouTube Channel for all language learners!
Alright, that’s all of the idioms and phrases with meanings for this episode.
How to Land Your Next Job Online Video Course
If you want a new job, I advise you to learn how to find and apply for jobs strategically with my online course, How to Land Your Next Job. You’ll also get help with your resume, cover letter, LinkedIn Profile, and interviewing! It will help you get a job faster and with less frustration.
One of my clients recently took the course, and it helped him get a job offer! He completed a course survey, and I’d like to share his responses:
How would you rate the course? Excellent
This course helped me improve: My Resume, Cover Letter, LinkedIn Profile, Interview Preparation, Networking Skills, and Confidence
What improvements would you make to the course? Very few, honestly. I loved how it allowed me to proceed at my own pace and reach out to Kristine for one-on-one advice when necessary. It’s an ideal balance for the way that I learn, allowing me to work on my own until I hit a snag and needed more direct advice.
What goals did you reach after taking this course? I shifted from an editorial-focused career to a marketing one. Because I’d done the exercises in the course, I had a clear idea of what I wanted from my next job move, so I not only found a new job that was a great fit but was able to articulate it so that my current employer could make a counteroffer that met and exceeded what I was looking for.
Which part of the course was most relevant to you? The Career Vision exercises and resume portion.

English Learning Homework
Learning takes repetition and implementation. So, I’ll give you some homework! Listen to this episode again and repeat the words out loud to practice. It will not only expand your English vocabulary but help you to improve your American English pronunciation, listening skills, and intonation. You’ll be doing the Shadowing Technique! If you need a reminder about implementing the Shadowing Technique, check out episode 15, Introducing the Shadowing Technique for English Learning.
